Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, a programme for Universalisation of Elementary Education covering the entire country started in 2001. It aims to provide useful and relevant elementary education for all children in the 6-14 age group by 2010. It is an initiative to universalize and improve quality of education in a “mission mode” through decentralized and specific planning. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan adopts “the bottom-up” process of planning, where in the felt needs of the served communities and educational needs of learners are included.

Aims of SSA
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan aims to provide useful and relevant elementary education for all children in the age group of 6-14 by 2010. It also aims to bridge social, regional and gender gaps with the active participation of the community in the management of schools.
Objectives of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
All children in School Education Guarantee Centre, Alternate School, Back to School by 2007
All children complete five years of primary schooling by 2007.
All children complete eight years of elementary schooling by 2010.
Focus on elementary education of satisfactory quality with emphasis on education for life.
Bridge all gender and social category gaps at primary stage by 2007 and at elementary education level by 2010.

» Access, Enrollment, Retention and quality are the main Objectives of SSA
» Quality is the main objective of the UEE. In order to enhance the quality of LEARNING among the children on one hand and to improve the professional competencies of teachers on the other, a special programme “LEARNING ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMME” (LEP) is implemented.
» Modern Teaching Techniques  and Computer Training will be provided to all Teachers.
» Grants released to all Teachers, Schools, School Complexes and Mandal Resource Centers to provide basic needs and for Maintenance.
» Reviews at Mandal Level and District Level will be conducted on  Monthly Monitoring of the schools by the MRPs, MEOs, DRGs, SRGs, DIET and all sectorial officers.
» Community based quality Monitoring by School  Management Committees (SMC)
» Estimate the performance of the children by conducting Baseline Test (June), Quarterly (Sep), Halfyearly (Dec) and Annual Exams (April) under LEP.
» Conducting External Evaluation to know the result of all SSA Activities(March/April).
» Study on Class Room problems, and implementation of all SSA activities in the District will be done under Research and Evaluation Programme.
